Season Update. Win in Blancpain GT and Podiums in ADAC GT Masters.

The start to the 2018 has been a successful one for Kelvin van der Linde. Having secured his first podium of the year at the Brazilian Stock Car race in Sao Paulo, Kelvin has enjoyed a good start to his Blancpain GT and GT Masters campaigns.

Kelvin secured his first win of the season with team mate Steijn Schothorst in the first round of the Blancpain Sprint Series at Zolder, and currently leads that Championship with Attempto Racing.

Similarly, the ADAC GT Masters season kicked off well with a solid second place Finnish in Race 1 at Oschersleben. An unfortunate DNF after an off in Race 2 left Kelvin and his younger brother Sheldon in 3rd place in the overall standings after the race weekend.

The first round of the Blancpain Endurance Series kicked off this passed weekend, and once again, Kelvin, along with his team mates Steijn and Pieter Schothorst were in with a fighting chance of a podium finish until a pitstop mishap dropped the trio to P6 by the end of the race in an extremely competitive 54 car field filled with many factory supported “Full Pro” line-ups.

Kelvin and Steijn Schothorst currently sit in 4th position in the overall Blancpain GT Series Standings with only 6 points deficit to Series leader, Dries Vanthoor.

The next few weeks continue to be extremely busy, with a further 4 races taking place in succession.

Upcoming Races:

ADAC GT MASTERS, Most – 28-29.04

Blancpain Sprint Series, Brands Hatch – 5-6.05

24H Nurburgring – 12-13.05

Blancpain Endurance Series, Silverstone – 19-20.05

VDL Brothers join forces for GT Masters season!

After many months of speculation which arose from their once off outing at Sachsenring last year, it is finally official that Kelvin and Sheldon will share a car in 2018!

The two brothers from South Africa will share the #28 Audi R8 LMS by Land Motorsport in Germany’s most hotly contested GT Championship.

With a combined age of just 39, they will also be the youngest line-up on the start grid in 2018!

Having already shared a car in Daytona earlier this year, both Kelvin and Sheldon are well acquainted with the R8 and will be ready to start fighting for podiums from early on in the season.

Kelvin had the following to say about his 2018 prospects, “We have been dreaming of driving together for many years, and to be honest neither of us expected it to happen so soon. I have the tools I need to go for a Championship charge for the first time since 2014 and I strongly believe that we can achieve a lot together in 2018.”

Sheldon was similarly upbeat about the new season, “I am really thankful to Montaplast and Land Motorsport for making this possible. Its always a special feeling to drive with your brother in a professional environment. The goals we have are clear and we will be working hard to make sure we deliver on the expectations from the team and all of our supporters.”

Van der Linde Brothers set to make history

Van der Linde Brothers set to make history

The South African racing brothers Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde are set to make history this month when they share driving duties in an Audi R8 LMS GT3 in the 2018 24 Hours of Daytona (now known as the Rolex 24 at Daytona), scheduled for the weekend of 27-28 January.

The brothers, who over the last three years have set European, American and Australian race tracks alight, will share a car entered by the German team Montaplast by Land Motorsport with Christopher Mies from Germany and Swiss driver Jeffrey Schmidt in the GT Daytona (GTD) class.

As far as could be ascertain, this will be the first time two South African brothers will share a car in a post-war internationally sanctioned motorsport event for sports and touring cars.

While many SA siblings have over the years raced overseas, some during the same period (The Scheckter brothers, Jody and Ian, in Formula 1, and Shaun and Etienne van der Linde – father and uncle of Kelvin and Sheldon – in touring cars and single seaters respectively) none of them ever shared a car in the same race.
