Norisring Race: Van der Linde Steals the Show – Bad luck for Larini.

Teenager Kelvin van der Linde won the eventful highlight of the season at the Norisring to complete a hat-trick of victories in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup. The 17-year-old South African came home 2.5 seconds ahead of eternal runner-up Michelle Gatting (Denmark) to secure his third

Qualifying at the Norisring: Danes impress – Larini pushes his luck.

A Danish duo dominated qualifying in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at the Norisring. In glorious sunshine and in front of thousands of fans in the grandstands, Nicolaj Möller Madsen clocked the fastest time of 1:00.050 minutes to secure pole position for this afternoon’s race (start 16:35). Second place on the grid at the street circuit in Nuremberg went to his compatriot Michelle Gatting (1:00.108).

Overall leader Kelvin van der Linde (South Africa), who won two races in Spielberg, had to settle for third place (1:00.131). The South African finished ahead of Kasper H. Jensen in fourth to prevent a Danish one-two-three on the grid.

Having set the fastest time in free practice, legend Nicola Larini (49) could only qualify ninth in the Cup-Scirocco. The Italian waited a little too long and narrowly missed the ideal tyre window. Three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner (47) is also well placed going into the race, starting from eleventh. The remaining two racing legends, Harald Grohs (69) and Marc Duez (56), also held their own against the talented youngsters. Just one second separated pole position from the car starting from 22nd on the grid.

The race promises to provide an enthralling duel between DTM Legends Larini/Grohs and Motorsport Allstars Werner/Duez in the team competition.

Scirocco R-Cup LIVE @ Norisring

The weekend has arrived and from 12 to 13 July, the Scirocco R-Cup drivers will face their toughest challenge yet when they make their way through the streets of Norisring. Kelvin van der Linde leads the Championship after 3 races and will be looking to extend his lead by the time the Scirocco R-Cup field leaves Norisring. LIVE event broadcasts can be found at http://www.volkswagen-motorsport.com/index.php?id=55 .

“Its going to be a very demanding race weekend. Street circuits generally have a lot more risk involved. I will be looking to leave the weekend still leading the championship with a solid top 3 finish in Saturday’s race. Its important for us to avoid risks this weekend, a single non-score can ruin our Championship chances. Its hard to gain a lot of points in one race, and at the same time very easy to lose everything in one race.”
