First race in Oschersleben: Jensen celebrates his first real victory this season.
Kasper H. Jensen has celebrated his first real win in this season’s Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup. The Danish driver – who also got full points at the season’s first event in Hockenheim but was behind legend driver Nicola Larini. 1.8 seconds behind him, top-of-the-table Kelvin van der Linde (South Africa) took second place, ahead of the US driver Dennis Trebing. 17-year-old van der Linde is leading in the overall standings of the world’s only single-make championship powered by natural gas. Jensen is currently second, with two races left to go.
Former Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers (Netherlands/57) was best in the Legends category and took 15th place in the overall table. The other veteran racing drivers also kept up with the youngsters well: Kurt Thiim (Denmark/55) came 16th, Klaus Niedzwiedz (Germany/62) was 20th and the two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk (Netherlands/59) finished 22nd.
“In the beginning I felt that I had more pace than Kasper and was setting up a move for 1st place. I waited too long, however, as the car started running hotter in the warm air from Kasper’s car and I began to lose power. Eventually I chose to consolidate a solid podium position and focussed on my championship prospects”
