Qualifying at the Norisring: Danes impress – Larini pushes his luck.
A Danish duo dominated qualifying in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at the Norisring. In glorious sunshine and in front of thousands of fans in the grandstands, Nicolaj Möller Madsen clocked the fastest time of 1:00.050 minutes to secure pole position for this afternoon’s race (start 16:35). Second place on the grid at the street circuit in Nuremberg went to his compatriot Michelle Gatting (1:00.108).
Overall leader Kelvin van der Linde (South Africa), who won two races in Spielberg, had to settle for third place (1:00.131). The South African finished ahead of Kasper H. Jensen in fourth to prevent a Danish one-two-three on the grid.
Having set the fastest time in free practice, legend Nicola Larini (49) could only qualify ninth in the Cup-Scirocco. The Italian waited a little too long and narrowly missed the ideal tyre window. Three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner (47) is also well placed going into the race, starting from eleventh. The remaining two racing legends, Harald Grohs (69) and Marc Duez (56), also held their own against the talented youngsters. Just one second separated pole position from the car starting from 22nd on the grid.
The race promises to provide an enthralling duel between DTM Legends Larini/Grohs and Motorsport Allstars Werner/Duez in the team competition.
